Resounding Success for Annual Show
Harrow in LEAF's Annual Horticultural Show took place over the Bank Holiday weekend, and was officially opened by Harrow's 'Queen'
The show was a tremendous success. The exhibits in the Horticultural and Beekeeping marquees were of awe-inspiring standards, and there were more stalls, entertainment and activities than ever to keep all members of the family happy throughout the day.
A full report and more pictures of the Show and prizewinners will appear hear shortly, along with a list of prize-winners in the children's 'Guess the Number of Seeds in the Bottle' competition, and the results of the tomato taste test.
We would like to thank you all for attending, and look forward to seeing you again for next year's event. |
| Earth Project to Close
We have been shocked to learn that the Earth Project, situated at the rear of the Newton Park East allotment site, is to close next week.
The Project, which is a horticultural learning centre, was set up 3 years ago, and has been managed by Harrow College on behalf of Harrow Council.
The staff have worked tremendously hard and enthusiastically to build up the Project, and to see this supreme effort and the massive financial investment wasted with little concern for the end-users, mainly disadvantaged people and school groups, would indeed be a tragedy.
We would appeal to anyone who would like the Project to remain open, or who may be able to contribute time or resources in enabling a new organisation to continue and build on the work which is going on there, to contact us, or write to your local councillor or the paper.
We feel most strongly that the Project should not be allowed to close, and will support any initiative that continues the horticultural, educational and social aims of this valuable resource.

Tomato Trials
Harrow in LEAF have this year started a project that we hope will run for many years.
A trials bed has been dug and prepared on the ground at our HQ, and with the help of a grant from Veolia Water, a solar-powered irrigation system has been installed to water the bed.

You can get more articles and information on our trials and the varieties grown here... |

The staff at the Earth Project, behind the Newton Park allotment site in South Harrow
