Harrow in LEAF had a table and information boards at this event. We were selling lots of plants and informing visitors about our works and our Annual Horticultural and Crafts Show. There were be items of interest for children including lesser known veggies.
A hidden gem within Harrow? The grounds and orchard at the Grimsdyke Hotel, Old Redding, HA3 6SH, have undergone restoration over the past years
and provide lovely grounds to visit. The Hotel was formerly a home of librettist W.S. Gilbert and his wife Lady Gilbert, the garden enthuisiast.
The former being the other half of the Victorian comic opera writers Gilbert & Sullivan.
On October 8th 2017 there will be a celebration from 1pm to 4pm of Lady Gilbert's Orchard organised by the group that tend for the orchard
and it's large variety of apple trees.
There were a variety of stalls, an apple identification table where you could get your own apple tree apples identified (by bringing 3 fruits with stalks),
plus the opportunity to pick orchard apples and have them juiced just for you to drink. Great fun for kids.

With Harrow Council approval, FoPVG volunteers are planning the restoration of 5 rose beds in the focal point in the Gardens, and the creation
of an English Bluebell area. For both projects, free professional guidance has been received from Grow Wild's Liz Rolls, a qualified landscape architect.
Friends of Pinner Village Gardens is a community group formed in October 2015 whose high level aim is 'to improve this beautiful park', and whose detailed aims are
'to become involved in the management and development of the Gardens' and 'ensure that they remain a publicly-accessible site where the public can
enjoy the natural environment'.
|
|
The Friends run an increasingly successful first-Thursday-in-the-month working party, runs informal weekly 'early Sunday morning' working parties,
and has volunteers who specifically focus on gardening. If you are interested in joining them or volunteering then please Click Here for Further Info.

All tables were Sold Out for our popular annual Quiz Night 2017.
|
Thank YOU to all who came along and joined in the fun for a good cause - promoting a greener Harrow and well being for all.
This year the quiz took place on Saturday 23rd September at the 4th Headstone Scout Hut, Northumberland Road, North Harrow HA2 7RA.
Under the very capable stewardship of our Quizmaster Terence Frisch a lot of fun was had by all, racking our forgetful brains for the facts that we used to know and recall so quickly!
The Latin round was not fair though!
The entry price was still only £12 per person which included a Fish, Chicken or Veggieburger & Chip Supper, all presented nicely in a box with lemon & salad.
At the end, many empty bottles and cans were loaded into a large container for recycling, and many full competitors loaded into their cars (with designated drivers of course).

Harrow residents Lenz Haring and his grandmother Geraldine Auerbach applied to Harrow in LEAF for financial support
in launching their initiative to make Northwick Park Station's flower beds a much prettier sight to behold.
You may have read about their plans in the Harrow Times newspaper or via the on-line Harrow Times article.
|
This application met the criteria for the Harrow in LEAF Grant Scheme "Making Harrow Greener", and so the Management Committee voted on 12th July 2017 to provide a grant for this voluntary project.
A presentation of the cheque was made on the station platform on Monday 17th July by our Treasurer, Judy and Brian Vaughan, LEAF Membership Sec.
There are four beds requiring gardening, one has been tackled and there are three to go with plans to make an Alpines bed in the near future.
If you would like to get involved with this new group of volunteers then call them directly on 07971 818262 for further details.

The new wooden constructed "Moat Cafe" is now open, very impressive it is, and a stroll around the Headstone Manor Museum border shows how improvements are progressing.
|
It appears that a new entrance will be included, the paths are being improved, the grounds replanted, and ground level lighting added along major walkways.
This should all be complete by the time that we hold our 13th Annual Show in the Great Barn as an integral part of The Headstone Village Show 2017.
Photos taken and published on Thursday 29th June 2017.

Our ever popular Annual Plant Sale returned bigger and busier than ever!
This is Harrow's biggest independant charity Plant Sale where we saw 23 tables of various plants and horticultural stuff for sale.
Mostly grown by allotmenteers, amateur gardeners or local Horticutural Societies there were ornamental, fruit and vegetable plants sold at bargain prices.
Refreshments prepared by our volunteers were available in our Pop-Up Cafe which people enjoyed al fresco in the sunshine.
|
These cakes are really yummy!

Many that attended commented on how good the event is and how much they support Harrow in LEAF and the events we organise.
The Harrow in LEAF Membership table was busy as many existing members took the opportunity to chat and renew their Individual Memberships for 2017/18.
As in previous years we also welcomed some new members at the Plant sale and so say thank you to them for their support.
|
A tray of sweetcorn for £1, you must be joking!
|
Anyone can hire a table to sell plants. This year, tables were £7 if booked in advance or £8 on the day.
Thank you to all who donated plants for Harrow in LEAF's own stall, which raises money to help run the charity.
Our BIG Plant Sale is held in May every year at the Harrow in LEAF HQ, West Harrow Allotments Site (large) HA1 4HE.
Entered by the alleyway on the side of West Harrow Station, The Gardens off Pinner Road.
|
Once again we have been awarded a donation of £300 via the Waitrose scheme - COMMUNITY MATTERS.
Our members and their kind South Harrow customers raised this money for Harrow in LEAF via their green token campaign in April 2017.
As your local horticultural charity Harrow in LEAF will be able to use these funds to promote horticulture and biodiversity around the London Borough of Harrow.
Can we help you make Harrow greener?

Harrow in LEAF have been contacted by The Edible Bus Stop Ltd. on recommendation from the Senior Health Improvement Specialist, Public Health, Harrow Council. They write.....
|
|
"We are part of a team working on the Trinity Square public realm improvements.
We are creating a new planting palette for the square and Headstone Drive.
Part of our role will be to engage with the community and draw their interest in joining in with gardening activities.
Our scheme nods towards the ancient woodlands that were once part of the areas landscape with some edible/foraging elements. We are taking some artistic license, so it may not all be native planting, however, we believe it will provide an interesting narrative for those interested in gardening to discover.
Do you think your membership would like to be involved in helping with the planting and tending of the site?"
|
If you are interested in supporting this initiative then please write to info@theediblebusstop.org to register your interest to help or to obtain further information about this scheme and volunteering.
