Allotment Associations & Horticultural Groups in Harrow, Middlesex

Newton Park Horticultural Society

Founded 1939 it is situated on the Newton Park West site alongside the park in Rayners Lane. Pedestrian entrance is by 321 Alexandra Ave just downhill of the Drake Road junction. Loading access for bulky items/large orders is via the access road by 1 Drake Road.

Open two hours every Sunday morning from 10.30 am to 12.30pm it stocks a wide selection of all the consumables any gardener usually requires sold at very competitive prices. Whether you want seeds, pots, composts, foods or poisons, netting, ground cover, hose adaptors or a whole host of many other items, it is always worth checking us out first.

In season we also stock bulbs and tubers such as daffodils, tulips, crocii, hyacinths, gladiolas, potatoes, onions (main and Autumn/japanese) etc..

Remember the golden rule: If you can not see what you want, do ask.

We also have a "bargain counter" where currently dibbers, hand trowels & forks, sprayers, and many other items are sold at an unbelievably cheap price. Always check this out first when you call.

On our charity stall you will find plants surplus to members requirements, plus various other freely donated items. Our homemade preserves are very popular (fruit according to season) being additive free.

Gardening advice of course is always freely available (and sometimes too freely available!).

SOCIAL EVENTS

On the social front we:-

a) have coach outings each year, generally to places and gardens of horticultural interest (but we've been known to broaden the scope)
b) hold Summer B-B-Q's on our East site
c) run Quiz evenings at the Tithe Farm Social Centre (or Rayners Football club if you're of the sporting ilk), normally in Spring & Autumn/Fall
d) hold a Christmas get-together in the Trading Hut with free drinks and food plus a superb raffle.

MAJOR ANNUAL HIGHLIGHT

The Horticultural highlight of our year is our Show - at the Tithe Farm Social Centre again - which is the largest individual society show in the Borough (circa 500 entries) - holding interest and fun that has interest.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all, costs £3 per annum (reduced to £1.50 for students & OAPs) with members receiving three newsletters a year detailing all topical items, events, and attractions at the Trading hut.
