West Harrow Allotment and Garden Association websiteThe Sites The Association Trading Hut is on the West Harrow large allotment site. Entrance is from The Gardens by the side of West Harrow Underground Station. The site before the 2nd World War was very large, but one corner was taken up with Vaughan Road Infant and Junior School. After the war and more recently, another corner is occupied by the Brethren Meeting House and a junior football pitch. There is also a small site on the other side of The Gardens, directly opposite the Underground Station. Despite the building encroachment the sites in total still remain the largest in the Borough of Harrow, with 150 ten pole plots (approx. 20' x 120') on the large site and 48 on the small site. You don't have to live in Harrow to have an allotment and because of our car parks and being adjacent to West Harrow Underground Station we have many travelling a fair distance to the sites. With approximately 80% occupancy there are, despite an upsurge in demand for allotment plots, still some available. The Trading Hut The trading hut offers a wide range of plot/garden essentials such as composts, fertilizers, pest and fungus control, pots, netting, vegetable seeds etc and in January/February sells seed potatoes (wide variety), onion sets and shallots – all at very reasonable prices. Trading hours are: Saturday 2pm – 4 pm (except Nov/Dec/Jan) Sunday 10am – 12 noon all year Please visit our website for latest information and news: westharrow-allotment.com The Association Committee The Committee and some helpers serve in the hut, maintain car parks, a toilet, litter bins and some secure storage for valuable machinery and tools. They also carry out tree/bulb/bush planting to create a better environment. We hold an annual Autumn Show on the second Saturday in September, publish a newsletter and arrange coach trips to Wisley (we are affiliated to the RHS) and hold occasional social events such as a quiz evening. |
